Subject:Paternal Geneology
Dear Moderator, I have very limited information but wonder of the connection to my paternal family. I have never had contact with any of them and probably never will especially due to ages of people. I was born of James Leo Baker in 1958. He and my mother were married but divorced in 1961. It was understood that he died about 1961 from a massive heart attack, he was very roughly 46 years old. It is reflected on my birth certificate his name and South Dakota. Mother states that he always said his mother was full blooded Blackfeet and had and would always live as a Blackfeet Indian. Mother did not know their names but said I had half siblings and grandparents in the Blackfeet Nation. I wonder of any records that may link this together. I have nothing else to go on but have been told several times in my life that I favor the look of Native Americans and even recently was approached by a woman who stated "you have the Native American look of a Plains Indian" that started me once again thinking about what my connection could be. Thank you for your time and assistance if you have any info I would appreciate the connection.

Subject:QUESTIONS AND MORE QUESTIONS!
Hello, I have very limited contact with my father, but his name in Raymond Edward Chaney, and he tells us that he is 1/4 Blackfoot. I have tried repeatedly to contact him and other family members to get more information in researching our family tree, with little response. He did tell us that his grandfather (I believe) was sent to a reservation in Oklahoma, wanted to 'live as a white man', then CHANGED HIS NAME to CHANEY, and move off the res. So it's very difficult because at this point I have no idea what his REAL last name was. I would appreciate ANY information anyone may have - even such as, what reservation was this? (I have read that other Blackfeet were also on this reservation, but I cannot figure out what it's name was from the information I have found online.) I have a huge geneology of my mom's side of the family, and literally NOTHING on my father's side, so any information would be helpful. (My father lives in Washington and I hear his sister - Irene, I think - lives in Idaho - but I don't know what town). Also, IS THERE A WAY TO SEARCH THIS FORUM? Thank you in advance for anything anyone can offer! Erica

I met both in 1961 (I was 19) where I worked - Kiowa,Montana and in Browning. I have just a couple pictures of the three of us. Several years ago I was contacted by James White Calf Jr's daughter from Alaska thru a geneology website. She and her children never really got the chance to meet her dad. AND she did not have a picture of him. I sent the pictures to her via email. Her response was a tearful reunion thru the pictures. I will dig out the pics and his daughters name and post them. My Granddaughters are all ears when I tell them what I know from that experience back in 1961. Charlie Halter Bowling Green, Kentucky corkyscott@aol.com

Subject:Looking for information on Troy Griffin and family history
I have been trying to research my husbands ancestory. His paternal grandfather was Troy Griffin born 10/7/1913...died 10/1984 and of Blackfeet heritage. The following is what I have been told. Troy's fathers name was Crow and was on a Oklahoma Reservation. He took the surname Griffin...left the reservation to homestead...was lynched by townspeople for the killing of squaters. Troy returned to to reservation & sent to an agency school. I don't know if all this is true but I do know that Papa's SS# was issued in Oklahoma. In adult life he was a mule skinner (I'm told) and brick mason. After his death we were told he had a brother living on the Montana Blackfeet Reservation. We have no name (Possibly George), but do know that he was blind. Papa was the kindest man I ever met. I greatly loved and respected him. I want to learn more about our family history for my husband, sons, and future generations. Can anyone help me in this persuit.

Subject:Heritage : Blackfeet Indian
My family geneology reflects the name of Madill, but in the mid 1800's early 1900's the name was Macdougal, before that MacDowdell, there were others. I have looked at your Sirnames and it is a possibility that we might be Blackfeet. No one in the family was curious enough to look. I feel and a few others that it is our right, and our privilage to find out. Our fathers' Grandfather was Blackfeet, so we "the children" want to know if we have the honor of upholding our heritage of being Blackfeet.
